Thursday Thirteen – The Costco Edition

We decided to rejoin Costco the other day, and I was reminded how much I love it there. So in the interest of science (domestic science silly!), I thought I would give you my favorite (ok, and not-so-favorite) things about Costco:

  1. Double-wide carts – It’s great to have room for my bags, purse, etc…but not so great to have it strewn everywhere because a certain nameless 3 year old decides to go exploring.
  2. Great prices on books – I picked up “Deceptively Delicious” for $14! Good thing I was at costco to pick up all kinds of veggies to puree (um, not yet)
  3. Samples – yeah, I used to think this was a great perk…til I had kids. I am not one that will ask for a sample for everyone, so the boys get to share, and I get to smell their breath afterwards.
  4. Ginormous bags of frozen goodness – between strawberries (a fav snack for mama), potstickers, stir fry veggies, and boneless skinless chicken (breasts and tenders), my freezer is pretty packed. The downside – no room for 79 mini cheesecakes!
  5. Does anyone EVER get out of there for less than $100?
  6. One word – HOTDOGS (I seriously never eat them otherwise)
  7. Always new stuff – did you know they carry Borghese now?
  8. Office Supplies – Rowr!
  9. The best Buttercream ever…(so I hear ;-) )
  10. Spices in bulk – especially taco seasoning and ranch dip mix – SO many uses
  11. Did you know you can buy a casket there? (or maybe it’s Sam’s)
  12. Did I mention NOT getting samples?
  13. Trying to find a place for 79 78 mini cheesecakes and all his friends (have NO idea how that got there!

What are your favorite/not-so-favorite things about Costco or Sam’s? Any goodies I should look out for?

My Favorite Fabrics and Designers

It’s that time of year when all the new Yummy fabrics are coming out – just intime for the upcoming Holidays I suppose…I thought I would highlight a couple of my favorites, and I would love it if you all would share some of your favorites in the comments!

Who DOESN’T love Heather Bailey? The colors, the patterns – she doesn’t miss a detail, and her latest collection is no exception…

Anna Maria’s fabrics are beyond Yummy. The colors are rich, and can you imagine the luscious Aprons you could make from these fabrics? She also has a book coming out in October that I cannot wait to get.

Ok, now it’s your turn! Who are your favorite fabric designers??

Decisions, decisions…

Colors have been selected, and the we have decided the placement (I think)…

From Left to right: (all paints by Behr) Cocoa (rejected-looks like makeup rubbed on the wall) , Ultra Pure White (for trim), Butter Cookie (for kitchen and master Bedroom – although I love it so much I would put it in every room - can I do that?), Warm Nutmeg (rejected – too dark), Oyster Bay (a fav from The Nester-maybe the boys room), Svelte Sage (rejected – pretty color, but too blue). The bottom two are celery (the color for the breezeway/crafting room, and maybe the boys room) and Pumpkin Butter (living room). So it looks like the rooms will be the butter cookie, the celery, and the pumpkin butter. Not very appetizing a combo for food, but I think they will be pretty in the rooms.

Really – CAN I do the whole house butter cookie? It’s such a pretty yellow without being too sunshine-y or loud. It will go with what we have now, and will definitely go with what we have planned further down the road…I need you obi-wan-kenobi bloggers! Help a girl out! :-D

Where in the world…

..is Domestic Chicky?

Hmmm, let’s see. I have been working on a proposal for PR  assignment for a great author in advance of her next book, I have been couch shopping (seriously – we have been to 3 places that have the SAME FURNITURE – do they think we won’t notice the same leather-bottom, tweed topped sectional?), we have been school clothes shopping (yay target!), I have been TRYING to purge my house of a lot of STUFF that seemed at the time to be useful, I am working on a new fun blog design for a client, taking tons of pictures of the boys (when they hold still), looking for crafty chick contributors for Blissfully Domestic AND The Apronista(interested? leave a comment or email me!), longing for fall, and generally keeping busier than I should be. Some break, huh?

I think we are painting sometime soon, and when that happens I will post before and after pictures. Trust me when I tell you that a quirky color-loving girl and a vanilla, khaki and polo shirt guy CANNOT agree on paint colors.

Since I can’t leave without something fun to do or see, here are a few links I have enjoyed lately – ohm and if you have google reader, you can follow my shared items like the ones over here >> . Seriously, if I could make a blog of just shared stuff – (hmm…)
